DIY - Custom Curtain Rods

Dressing a window can be pricey, Curtains, Rods and Rings add up quickly. Here's 3 money saving ideas for the naked windows around your house.

Charming and Elegant: Bring the outdoors inside using pruners, a relatively straight tree branch, and some white spray paint. You'll get a nature-inspired, functional work of art.
Use tie-top curtains to adjust for the curves of the branch -- no rings or clips needed!!
For an Industrial Look: Attach red-handle boiler valves with adapters to a 3/4-inch galvanized pipe and floor flanges. Secure the flanges to wall studs. Use steel clamps for the rings.
Hockey Fans!! Simply hang a hockey stick on hidden brackets. The puck look-alikes are shower curtain hooks painted black, then squeezed with pliers for a snug fit.

Changing the world....one outfit at a time.

Nobody tells this to beginners

Read this today and I just had to share. As a newer designer I could relate this.

From Ira Glass . . .
“What nobody tells people who are beginners — and I really wish someone had told this to me . . . is that all of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap.
For the first couple years you make stuff, and it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you.
A lot of people never get past this phase. They quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know it’s normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work.
Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one design. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met.
It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through”

DIY - Remake your Bed

The bed becomes a charming settee when parts are reassembled.

  1. Cut the footboard in half vertically to form arms for the settee.
  2. Cut a piece of MDF or Plywood for the seat and a piece for a front rail.
  3. Assemble all pieces with wood screws and glue.
  4. Sand, prime, and paint the settee.
  5. When dry, add nailhead trim.

For a cushion, wrap a foam pad cut to size with batting and a throw. Or sew the throw into a cover for a more structured look

They taste just like your favorite treats from way back when.

Its a Park Bench that Tweets

Interested in the overlap of digital and physical experiences, designer Chris McNicholl has created the TweetingSeat, a park bench located in the Botanical Gardens in Dundee, Scotland that has an online presence of its own.

Each time a passer-by takes a seat on the bench, a camera located nearby will snap a picture of him or her while another camera takes a photo from the sitter’s point-of-view. The bench will then upload the images onto its Twitter account.

“TweetingSeat has been created in order to explore the environments in which it is placed and look at the people whom it encounters,” McNicholl said in a statement. “The way in which the bench should be used has purposely been left open, allowing people and communities to build their own relationship with it.”

Visit TweetingSeat on Twitter to see some images of park visitors enjoying a break on the bench.

Fashionable Food

When food meets fashion it simply has to look tasty and amusing at the same time. The award-winning Italian photographer Fulvio Bonavia has made these tasteful creations for his latest book “A Matter of Taste”.

Purses made out of raspberries, a belt of sardines, and chocolate earrings are just some of his eatable “haute couture” pieces.

Adult Coloring book?

Most Interesting Quote in relation:
This book entered my life at a time when I was feeling more or less 'eh' about my vagina. Like, I'd wake up in the morning, first thought: 'I've got a vagina.' Next thought: 'Yeah, so?'

Not anymore. In my mind, at least, my private parts have progressed from the drab Middle Ages to a Technicolor Age of Aquarius. Let the sunshine in.

7 things designers can learn from hookers

by Michelle Butt
  1. Keep your eye on the prize. It's a business transaction. Don't be shy about the money, unless it's just a hobby.
  2. Tell him how big and wonderful it is. Clients always go for exaggeration and praise...no matter how big or small they really are..
  3. Make yourself presentable. Cargo pants don't cut it. Try a fake leather miniskirt and fishnet stockings. All the Pentagram folks do that. Big clients are impressed.
  4. Leave 'em smiling. A happy client is a returning client.
  5. Show your best talents. You have a natural gift for not gagging in the presence of clients. Work on it if you don't.
  6. Always ask what they want first. ( this should be Number One.)
  7. Follow-up. Take his wallet while you're down there.
